Released 2020-07-02

This update focuses on ensuring that the database files are securely encrypted before the user can continue to use the system. This is part of our ongoing committment to data security.

Welcome Dialog

The dialog now requires a password, and confirmation, from users before creating the database file which will be encrypted with that key.

Sign-On Dialog

Every subsequent time Family Finance Manager is run, the user will be prompted for the password to the database and if the password is not valid then they will not be able to proceed.

Version 0.6.27

Released 2020-06-30

This update fixed a bug that prevented the correct account types showing in the Create Account dialog.

Create Account Dialog

When the dialog is displayed, it provides the user with a list of available account types to create. The list has been corrected to match those detailed in the documentation.

Version 0.6.22

Released 2020-06-26

This update added support for the MS Money import to delete transactions that have been deleted from MS Money.

MS Money Extension

Once transactions have been imported, we then check the list of all MS Money transactions that have been imported against the current list and if any no longer exist then we delete them from FFM. This means that we track posted scheduled transactions properly.

Dashboard

Nothing has changed on the dashboard, but if a scheduled transaction has been posted in MS Money, it will be removed from the Dashboard page once the subsequent import has been completed.

Version 0.6.21

Released 2020-06-24

This update starts to look at how we should handle future transactions. We are currently modelling them in the same way as MS Money does and we’ll see how that pans out.

MS Money Extension

We now import the future transactions from MS Money and classify them as Schedule for the template transactions and as Instances for actual scheduled transactions.

Dashboard

Incoporates an ‘Upcoming Activity’ list of transactions that are expected to occur. The list is just display only at the moment but will be extended so that we are able to post the transactions directly from the scheduled list.

Version 0.6.20

*Released 2020-06-23

This release focused on improving using the dashboard as a quick reference for how we are doing this current month.

Dashboard

Moved to gauges showing the current month’s income, expenditure and totals with a comparison to the year-to-date average so that the user can get a quick idea of the trend.

Version 0.6.14

Version 0.6.13

Released 2020-06-19

This release works on improving the understanding of the total return of the portfolio.

Portfolio Page

We now show change of portfolio value going back 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and 3 years. This shows the percentage gain / loss from the historical value to the current value and gives an idea of how the portfolio is performing over time.

Version 0.6.12

Released 2020-06-17

This release focuses on improving the handling of investments and associated transactions such that we can understand the real return.

Investment Transactions

Investment transactions now have the concept of investment cost as well as purchase cost, though this is calculated automatically behind the scenes. This means that in Investment accounts where we realise gains, receive dividends and/or pay management fees, we can now work out the overall gain for the account as opposed to having just the purchase cost of the funds and the gain calculated from the current value.

Portfolio Page
The Portfolio page now shows ‘Real Cost’, ‘Real Gain’ and ‘% Real Gain’ fields that show the new gain values and provide a quick visual analysis of overall return from the funds.

Version 0.6.11

Released 2020-06-12

This release focuses on delivering a customisable Income & Expenses report and making general quality improvements.

Income & Expenses report

One of the key uses of the Income & Expenses report is to understand how income and expenditure has changed over time. This is particularly relevant if you are trying to reduce expenditure going forward or even maximise income.

The default settings create an issue as they will typically show ‘one-off’ financial activities that can skew the figures both optimistically and/or pessimistically. By using the customise function, it is possible to specify which categories should be shown in the report and thereby createa a ‘normalized’ view of the data that allows you to monitor the specific activity you are interested in.

Once you have configured these settings, they are stored in the database so that the next time you view the report, the same categories will be used.
